Garcia began her studies at Texas Christain University, where she had a few years of studying prior to moving on to the University of Texas. When she arrived at Texas Christain, she was introduced to a competitive setting that made it easier for her to improve her skills as a golfer. Angela Akin Garcia was a great golfer but she never imagined pursuing a career in the field of golf. Her choice was to study journalism instead. So after graduating from the University, she was offered a position as a reporter on Fox Sports Southwest.
